Check who is responsible and their registration

Start with people, not prices. A clinic listing gives you contact details. It cannot show who will be responsible for the care.

Ask who does what

• Who assesses whether TMS is suitable?
• Who writes the treatment order?
• Who supervises each visit?
• What training do the staff have for the device they use?
• Who answers questions between visits?
• How does your regular clinician receive the plan and the follow-up notes?

Check registration with the official body

Ask for the full name and the profession of each clinician who assesses, orders or supervises the treatment. Then check the official register yourself. Do not rely on a badge, a listing or a clinic web page for this check.

• In the UK, the General Medical Council publishes the medical register for doctors.
• In Australia, Ahpra publishes the register of practitioners.
• In the US, state medical boards license doctors. Some states have a separate board for osteopathic doctors (DO). Check the board for the state where the clinic is.
• In Canada, a medical regulatory authority in each province or territory registers doctors. Check the one for the clinic's province or territory.

For other professions, ask the clinic which body registers them. Then check the official register in your state or country. If you cannot find a person on the register, ask the clinic to explain before you continue. Do not guess the reason.

What a listing does not prove

The medical director field shows the name that a clinic publishes. A Verified badge shows that the clinic proved the listing is theirs. Neither one checks registration, training or supervision.
